Our Story

Hi there! We are so pleased to have you with us. Let's start from the beginning...
In 2022 a group of mothers in the slums of Kampala, Uganda trained in basket weaving thanks to the work of Every Life International. Life is tough in the slums and for these ladies this new skill offered the chance of a precious income. As they practiced and practiced until perfect they began to think about where they could sell these beautiful handmade items. And that's where Kwagala Co, one of our brands, was born!
Ugandan artisan with hand woven basket and baby

Kwagala (we know, it's a little tricky to pronounce but we aren't picky!) means 'love' in the local language of many of our artisans and we really wanted this to play out in all of our values.

For some of our first artisans, as single mothers or sole bread winners for their families, this income has enabled them to put food on the table and pay their rent. We were so pleased to hear that all of their children are now in school. How brilliant to see them empowered through their hard work and your support to provide for their young families.

As we prayed about the way forward and saw the change this income was bringing, we began to dream of partnering with other collectives of artisans in need of support to see sustainable change come to their families too. We want to see them released from the viscous cycle and chains of poverty. That's where Shop Their Story came to life.

Today we work hand in hand with our partners to bring you small scale artisan products that do good for all involved. We know by working together we can achieve so much more than we could apart.

We hope you enjoy browsing through products with a story worth telling and know that your purchases are genuinely making a difference around the world.

Thank you for joining us, we couldn't do it without you!
